Hello and welcome everybody!

My name is Hetty, and I am a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker from China. I was born in Guangdong and studied and worked in Hangzhou for 7 years. I have a university degree and worked in an auction house before teaching. I like reading, listening to music, drawing, and going hiking. I am always curious and excited about the new things. I really love to share the Chinese culture and tradition with others, and I like to chat with people from all over the world and understand their cultures and life.

I think patience is important while teaching, it’s important to listen to students and firstly get to know your goals so I can create a personal study plan to fit each student's needs. During my lessons I like to have a relaxed environment, it’s important to me you feel relaxed! If you are relaxed your experience will be more enjoyable and we can work out problems together! In this relaxed environment, you will find it easier to immerse yourself in the language.

My lessons & teaching style :

I think the most important things for teaching languages are to make students feel entertained and retain a keen interest in learning more, so my lesson focus around your goals and interests. Five years teaching experience has taught me that students have different learning styles, there is no one way to structure a lesson. My teaching style changes to best suit the students’ needs and the context. For example, I use different materials in my lessons such as: stories, videos and games when I have lessons with younger learners; for those preparing for a Chinese language test, I can provide more structured lessons that follow a course book and give more specific exercises to target a specific grammar point. I am familiar with the different Chinese language exam success criteria and can arrange a program of study. I also like to have lesson through conversation we both find interesting. For students who wants to travel China or build connections with Chinese people, the lessons focus on such as in daily lives, past experiences, goals for the future, current events, whether that is gossip about your favorite celebrities, or trends in the economy.

Teaching methods :

I will make your own personal lesson plan; this may include: daily conversations, business language, job interviews, preparation for exams or through themed topics. I will also prepare teaching materials such as textbooks, PDF and PPT documents.
